New guitar-source experiment · unapproved · no samples

Same notes.
New string.

This is guitar, not a renamed sax trial. The previous solo notes, timing, phrasing, bass and drums remain fixed. Only the string source changes; the existing amp, cabinet, EQ, room and echo stay in place.

A controlled listening comparison, not a claim that the guitar is now realistic or better.

Both solo choruses · in the band

The same 38.4-second passage at 200 BPM. The candidate guitar uses one constant loudness-matching gain; the backing is unchanged.

Five held notes

G3, E4, F♯4, C5 and G5: the same levels and gates through the same amp. One shared matching gain per version preserves the note-to-note differences.

What is actually modeled?

String length, tension, effective mass and steel-core stiffness set the string modes. A distributed triangular deflection is held by a force, then released over 1.5 milliseconds. Internal losses damp the motion; a finite-width linear pickup reads its velocity. The model does not initialize the string with a random waveform.

The same modal state continues through each existing slur. The changing-fret approximation is provisional: it does not yet account for all work done by the fretting finger. There is no shared bridge/body coupling, and the physical dimensions and pickup response have not been fitted to a measured instrument.

The explicit slur pitch paths stay fixed. The old sustained-string voice’s automatic pitch settling and vibrato are not copied into this source, so this is not a microintonation-identical comparison.

This is a new source model, not a verified recreation of a named guitar. Free-decay, pitch, headroom and preservation checks are diagnostics, not listening approval. Background: Julius O. Smith’s physical electric-guitar synthesis discussion.

The opening, returning theme and ending still use their previous PCM. Only 19.7–58.1 seconds tests the new string source. Nothing replaces the old recordings.
